Do I need to buy my swimmer a team suit?
Team swimsuits are not required, although we recommend purchasing one for your child as it helps foster team spirit. Team swimsuits will be available at D&J Sports on Route 309 in Coopersburg, phone number 610-282-5895.
Is my son or daughter eligible for swim team?
Swimmers must be six years of age, as of May 31, up to the summer of senior year in high school. In addition, coaches will evaluate new swimmers and returning pre-swim team swimmers at the Rodale Aquatics center located at Cedar Crest College from 7:00-7:45 for 8 & under 7:45-8:30 p.m. 9 & up on Monday May 11. Additional information will be available at Registration. All swimmers must be able to swim 25 meters (one length of the pool) of at least freestyle and backstroke. If a swimmer cannot swim 25 meters, they may be eligible for pre-team. The coaches will determine this eligibility.
Do I need to come to every practice?
Attendance is mandatory for all scheduled practices. Swimming practice will begin promptly. Please plan to arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled practice time and be ready to enter the water at your starting time. Children should be picked up with 15 minutes of the end of their practice.
Can I miss a practice?
Swimmers will be allowed to miss practices only if approved by coaches. Please record any excused absences in the logbook. The logbook will be located in the office just as you enter the gate by the corner of the building. Attendance at practice the day of a meet is required in order to participate in the meet. Exceptions might be made if the coaches are notified prior to the practice. It should be understood that swimmers who are practicing with other USS or club teams and are also a part of Soleco are welcome but must attend a minimum of one practice per week to participate in meets and championships.
How often will my child swim in a meet?
Efforts will be made to include all swimmers in at least one event per meet. We have a large team and often it is difficult to have all swimmers swim more than one event. Priority will be given to the swimmers who attend regularly and put forth their best effort for dual meets and championships.
Do I need to attend swim meets if I am not swimming?
Swimmers are expected to attend swim meets, regardless of whether they are swimming.
What if I can't attend a meet?
Swimmers must notify coaches, in writing, one week in advance if they cannot attend a meet. If a swimmer is scheduled to swim and does not show up for that meet, they will not be entered in the next swim meet! No exceptions!
Do I need to stay for the whole meet?
Swimmers must remain with the team during the entire meet, in the designated area only! We do not want to have to look for anyone during a meet. All swimmers should be with the team until the end of the meet, even if they are finished swimming. WE ARE A TEAM!
What if my son/daughter would like to swim a different event during a meet?
Please write it in the logbook. Effort will be made to honor these requests, within reason.
Will my swimmer participate in Post Season competition?
Championships will depend on the following five criteria:
1) Times 2) Attitude 3) Consistency 4) Work Ethic 5) Attendance the week prior to Championships. Coaches will have final say on these decisions!
Best of the Rest – Any swimmer not competing in 3 or more events in Championships may swim at Best of the Rest in any event other than what they are swimming at Championships.

What is PRE-Team?
The Goal of the Pre swim Team is to encourage children to participate and learn to master the competitive swim strokes. Swimmers on the pre team will be advanced to the regular swim team based on proficiency of the major competitive strokes. This will be decided by coaches. Pre team members are encouraged to attend all meets but they may not participate in those events until they are ready. Pre-swim team is NOT intended to be swimming lessons and inclusion will be at the coach’s discretion.
How will the coaches communicate to the team?
All communications from coaches such as cancellations, time changes, etc. will be communicated via the ONE CALL system. It is very important that you include contact telephone numbers on registration forms. Each family will have a folder located in a crate labeled “Soleco Ribbons & Mail”. Make sure you or your child checks your folder at least twice a week for all important information from the coaches and board (ribbons, picture information, etc).
How do I communicate with the coaches?
Communication to the coaches can take place through the use of the logbook that is used for swimmers attendance.
How many swim meets are there, and how long do they last?
Our team is part of the Suburban Swim League, and there are nine teams in the league. Over the course of the summer swim season, there will be 8 swim meets - 5 home meets at our pool, and 3 away meets at 3 different pools. The swim meet schedule and directions to the away meets can be found on the website. The League determines the schedule and rotates the meets, so that the meets we swam at home the previous year are away this year, and vice versa. Meets usually last about three hours, not including driving time.

Do I need to volunteer at meets?
For a swim meet to run smoothly it takes many volunteers! Every family who has a child swimming on the team is expected to help work the meets. There are several different jobs you can volunteer for such as set up, timing, runner, concessions, score table, ribbon writing and clean up. None of these jobs require detailed training so please do not let any intimidate you. We have found it necessary for each family sign up for at least 2 jobs and 2 food donations this year. In addition, we will be hosting Championships this year and everyone is required to sign up for one job and one food donation.
